Our Story
Stillwater Yoga began as a dream in 2010 when our founder, Sarah Chen, first discovered the transformative power of yoga during her travels through India. After years of studying under renowned masters in Rishikesh and Kerala, she returned to Australia with a vision: to create a sanctuary where ancient wisdom meets modern wellness.
Our studio opened its doors in the heart of Byron Bay in 2011, starting as a small space that could accommodate just 15 students. What began with morning Hatha classes on the beach quickly grew into a thriving community of practitioners seeking authentic yoga experiences. The name "Stillwater" reflects our core philosophy – finding inner calm and clarity amidst life's constant motion, like the peaceful depths beneath turbulent waters.
Over the years, we've expanded our offerings to include over 50 weekly classes, workshops, teacher training programs, and retreats. Our studio has been home to thousands of students who have discovered not just physical flexibility and strength, but profound personal transformation. Today, we're proud to be recognized as one of Australia's leading yoga destinations, while maintaining our commitment to the authentic teachings and community spirit that started it all.
As we look toward 2026 and beyond, Stillwater Yoga continues to evolve while staying true to our roots. We remain dedicated to providing a space where every individual can explore their unique path to wellness, supported by experienced teachers and a caring community that feels like family.
